Hi,
So after some investigation, i have decided to create a R360 channel on Pandora. I have spent the last few days teaching it my musical tastes, it is still young so every now and then you get a WTF song, but it is learning quick

Basically it’s very hard to create a streaming radio station outside of the established st…ation network due to cost’s. I like Pandora because it’s an interesting experiment, any number of people can listen one one time and its available on any computer, most mobile smart phones as an app and some new tv’s and dvd players.

Sorry but for now USA only.

So this is an interesting experiment, as everyone’s listening experience will be different.

Some thing you should know. You get to vote down a song 6 times an hour, which will make the next song play, and have to listen to an ad every 6 or seven songs ( I do not benefit from any advertising, but I like that it supports Pandora and the artists). You can get rid of the forward song restriction and ads for a small fee per year.

I made a rule for myself for this show of no electronics, enjoy.

I would also like to use this show to raise money for a Music teacher for the slum kids of Aziza’s Place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Please donate a $1 or more in your name and Radio 360 to help raise $2000 for the teachers salary for the year. Peter has already raised the money for the instruments to be built, so we are ready to go.

My friend Peter has been working with a program in Cambodia trying to save 2,000 years of music from vanishing. The story of the Cambodian people is sad, but your inspired by their outlook on life and how much they smile and laugh. In short imagine performing at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem on talent night, half way through your act the crowd boo’s at you, instead of being helped off the stage you are shot, bang gone! Sounds extreme I know, well this is what cambodian artists endured during the Khmer Rouge in the 70’s and 80’s. Many Artists vanished into the jungle and became farmers, the lucky few that survived were allowed to live and sing Propaganda songs for the rouge. Over 90% of all artistic and educated people were killed.

20 years later CLA was started by Arn Chorn-Pond, a Cambodian-American refugee who was featured in the Emmy-nominated movie, The Flute Player. It went out and found the surviving Masters and has created a studio and workshop to get them back to music and teaching. CLA empowers it’s art students and masters to develop performance skills and social networks that will help them to make a living through the arts. Many of these Masters live in the Slums of Phnom Penh.

Aziza’s Place opened its doors in February 2007. The colorful building, located in the capital city of Phnom Penh, is both home and learning center to more than twenty Cambodian children between the ages of 7 and 17. These children come from the city’s slums and the municipal
dumpsite of Stung Meanchey.

The staff and volunteers at Aziza’s Place assist the children to work toward self-determination within a safe environment, providing developmental programs focused on health, language, literacy, mathematics, life skills, visual arts and music.

The last song on the podcast is Tummonh Neang Sere Moha Maya, it is performed at funerals. Master Prum Ut a teacher and the male voice in the song just passed away. We are so glad to have this recording of the performance of the song. to support CLA buy the song.

Hi everyone,

This show is inspired by my trip to Nevis, part 2.

Where I grew up in the UK there is a big caribbean population. From school age on I listened to Reggae a lot, so it is a major part of my musical make up, I even named my Chinchilla “Lee Scratch Perry.” I have some great memories attached to it’s sounds, from the Bob Marley album Exodus that I carried all over europe when I back packed around for a summer, to the Notting Hill Carnival in London and England of the late 70’s and early 80’s. Check out Don Letts and his documentary about the Clash, Andrew Weatherall’s remix of  Primal Scream’s Higher Than the Sun, Jah Shakas Dubmasters Vol 1 (if you can find it!), and Adrian Sherwood….As well as the usual Reggae music we all know, i really got into where it merged with electronic, rock and dance in the UK during this time, eventually leading to bands like Massive Attack to emerge.

So driving around the island of Nevis, listening to the reggae on the car radio, every station plays it! As we looked out of the window at the Volcano and rainforest. It was just as I imagined it, sitting in the rainy concrete jungle that is Slough, while my friends told me of trips back to Jamaica to see family. So this podcast is for that, my memories of this music growing up, and my experience I had on Nevis in the West Indies. Hope you have the same.

Oh yeah, the Rainforest recordings in the show are of frogs and bugs at night in the garden where we stayed. I recorded them on my iphone.
